About the RoleWe are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Nursery Room Leader to join our team in Forest Row on a permanent basis. In this role, you will balance high-quality childcare with team leadership, taking ownership of your room to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children thrive.
You will be the driving force behind your room's daily operations, inspiring your staff team while building strong, trusting relationships with parents and caregivers.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeading the Staff Team
Act as the direct manager and role model for the nursery practitioners and assistants within your room.
Delegate daily tasks effectively and mentor junior staff or apprentices to support their professional growth.
Manage room logistics, including organising shift covers and ensuring correct staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
Ensure all team members understand and strictly adhere to nursery policies and procedures.
Curriculum & Activity Planning
Oversee and guide the educational planning for the room, ensuring all activities align with early years developmental frameworks (such as the EYFS).
Create a stimulating, safe, and age-appropriate learning environment that caters to the individual needs and interests of the children.
Monitor the overall quality of learning and play, introducing fresh, creative ideas to the daily routine.
Key Person Duties
Hold Key Person responsibility for a dedicated group of children, tracking their development and emotional well-being.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date learning diaries, observations, and progress profiles.
Assess and monitor developmental milestones, identifying and supporting any children who may need extra assistance.
Parent & Caregiver Communication
Serve as the primary, welcoming point of contact for parents and caregivers.
Manage daily drop-off and pick-up handovers, sharing meaningful updates about the child's day.
Lead formal parent-teacher meetings to discuss developmental progress, next steps, or any behavioural and emotional concerns.
Health, Safety, & Safeguarding
Maintain absolute compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations within the room.
Oversee risk assessments, daily safety checks, and strict management of allergen and dietary lists.
Act with vigilance regarding child protection, reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately in line with nursery procedures.
Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years (or equivalent).
Experience: Proven experience working in an early years setting, ideally with previous experience leading a room or mentoring staff.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of the EYFS framework, child development, and safeguarding/child protection procedures.
Skills: Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills. A warm, positive, and resilient attitude is essential.
