The US talent would be based either in Houston, Texas or work remotely from anywhere inside the Unites States of America. Frequent ( once per month) travel to Texas, New York, and coastal project locations would likely be needed throughout the year (up to 20% travel). The UK talent can be based in Sunbury-on-Thames, Aberdeen, or work remotely from anywhere inside the United Kingdom. The successful candidates will advise our Ventures teams in identifying new opportunities across the world and provide deep technical expertise to ongoing mega wind projects.We are looking for candidates who are experts in the application of existing state-of-the-art software for wind resource assessment and can help bp identify opportunities that unlock additional value through the use of enhanced statistics and computational fluid dynamics. Of particular interest is the understanding of uncertainty in energy yield, and how a digital environment and operational data may be utilized to optimize performance at individual assets and across bp’s global portfolio.This role will include the management and direct provision of technical services in site selection, site suitability studies, plant design, turbine layout for optimized energy production, due diligence as well as resource verification against field measurements.Job AdvertKey Responsibilities:Analysis and interpretation of measured wind data using state-of-the-art statistical methodsModelling of wind flow using linear/non-linear wind flow models, including an understanding of uncertainty in the numerical approachesIdentification of opportunities to reduce uncertainty in long-term resource assessments through the use of hindcast/climate simulations & statistical methodsDue diligence and independent verification of third-party energy yield assessmentsCollaboration with metocean engineers to identify measurement requirements and work scopes for optimized engineering and demonstration of bankable energy yieldLead the development & maintenance of customized tools, primarily in MATLAB or python languages, to improve bp’s internal capability to efficiently assess potential wind-resource and to perform due diligenceLead turbine and array optimization opportunities through collaboration with other engineering subject areas ( , structures, mechanical, geotechnical)Delivery of high-quality technical reports as well as preparation and review of technical tendersMaintain an awareness of the market and ongoing innovation in technology and research through participation in internal/external research and development projectsEssential Experience & Job Requirements:A degree in meteorology, statistics, or engineering - or a closely aligned disciplineA high level of understanding around the mechanical and structural aspects of turbine/array design and optimizationA track record of innovation and leadership in the development of non-standard approaches to wind resource assessmentAbility to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and effective mannerDesirable Criteria:Masters or PhD level in Meteorology, Mathematics, or Engineering.Knowledge of industry standards focusing on resource assessment, engineering design and instrumentationWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
