They are a highly respected specialist school and college dedicated to providing exceptional education and support for children and young people who are deaf or have complex speech, language, and communication needs. They operate across two distinct, modern sites within the region to provide tailored learning environments for different age groups. They focus heavily on developing life skills, independence, and confidence, ensuring that every student is empowered to reach their full potential in a safe, inclusive environment.
Skills Required
Flexibility: A highly adaptable mindset and the ability to comfortably work across two different educational sites.
Communication Support: Strong interpersonal skills to support students with hearing impairments or speech and language difficulties.
Relationship Building: The ability to connect with students across a wide age range, adapting your approach from young learners to young adults.
Resilience & Patience: A calm, encouraging manner to support students who may face frustration due to communication barriers.
Job Responsibilities
Working flexibly across two locations: supporting younger pupils at their Boston Spa site, and working with older students preparing for adulthood at their York site.
Providing 1:1 and small group support to ensure students can fully access the curriculum and learning resources.
Assisting classroom teachers and tutors in managing learning environments and adapting materials to suit individual student needs.
Helping older students at the college site to develop crucial independent living skills, vocational skills, and social confidence.
Essential Requirements
Full eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available).
An enhanced DBS on the update service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.
Previous experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs (sensory impairments or communication difficulties are highly desirable).
The ability to reliably travel to both the Boston Spa and York locations as required by the school's needs.
