Randstad Education is currently recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant to work within a dedicated Provision for Deaf Children at a highly regarded primary school in the local area.
The school's specialised provision supports children aged 3-11 in a dedicated, fully-equipped suite of rooms while actively integrating pupils into mainstream classrooms. The setting uses a child-centred communication approach-incorporating Spoken Language, Sign Supported English (SSE), and British Sign Language (BSL) to ensure every child achieves personal excellence, confidence, and independence.
Due to an immediate requirement, we are seeking a candidate with the relevant experience who can step into the role right away and make an instant impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group academic and communication support within both the specialist provision and mainstream classes.
- Work closely with Teachers of the Deaf, Speech & Language Therapists, and mainstream class teachers to deliver adapted learning plans.
- Support pupils in developing language, literacy, and social confidence across all school activities.
- Assist in monitoring and checking daily audiological equipment and classroom soundfield systems.
- Promote total inclusion during learning, lunchtimes, and extracurricular activities.
Requirements (Essential)
- Relevant Experience: Previous hands-on experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired children within an educational setting is essential.
- Immediate Availability: Must be available to start immediately or on very short notice.
- BSL Skills: Minimum BSL Level 2 (or equivalent demonstrable sign language / SSE competence).
- Adaptability & Patience: A nurturing, high-expectation approach to supporting children with additional sensory needs.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply for one) and full work history/references.
