Following their recent 'Outstanding' Ofsted inspection grading, Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced, resilient Team Manager to lead their dedicated Children with Disabilities (CWD) team. This specialist service provides vital, multi-agency support to children with severe or profound disabilities, complex medical conditions, and life-limiting illnesses, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care planning and statutory intervention.
Core Responsibilities
As a Team Manager within this high-performing authority, your leadership will focus on:
Service Delivery & Operational Oversight: Managing a team of Social Workers and Senior Practitioners, ensuring all casework adheres to statutory requirements across Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children (LAC) frameworks.
Practice Leadership & Supervision: Providing robust, reflective supervision and technical guidance to staff, driving high-quality, analytical assessments and purposeful care planning.
Performance & Threshold Management: Managing risk effectively, overseeing resource allocation (including short breaks and specialized care packages), and ensuring compliance with key performance indicators.
Multi-Agency Integration: Cultivating strong partnerships with health providers, education authorities, and voluntary sectors to deliver seamless, holistic support for families.
Mandatory Candidate Criteria
Professional Registration: Must be a Qualified Social Worker with a valid, active Social Work England registration.
Management Experience: Proven experience operating as a Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager within a statutory Children's Services environment.
Specialist Knowledge: A strong understanding of the Children Act 1989/2004, Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, and the unique safeguarding vulnerabilities faced by children with disabilities.
Leadership Attributes: Exceptional communication skills, a budget-conscious mindset, and the ability to motivate and develop a stable, ambitious frontline team.
