Position 1: Section 117 Mental Health Social Worker
Summary of Job
- This specialised role focuses on driving excellence in Support planning, reviews, and community integration for individuals subject to Section 117 aftercare.
- The post holder will lead on Section 117 statutory responsibilities, balancing legal frameworks with creative, strengths-based social work.
- The professional acts as a key point of expertise, shaping integrated procedures and providing guidance to the wider team.
Position 2: Mental Health Social Worker

- These positions deliver a comprehensive social care service to working-age community adults experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
- The roles place a heavy emphasis on promoting a needs-based, partnership-driven approach to service delivery alongside multi-disciplinary health teams.
- Practitioners will actively focus on developing meaningful engagement with individuals and families who are traditionally viewed as difficult to engage.
- Having an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification is highly ideal, though the council will support un-warranted staff to train for this path over time.
Position 3: Transitions Mental Health Social Worker
Summary of Job
- This dedicated post provides a comprehensive social care service to young people transitioning from children's services into adult provisions.
- The designated caseload supports individuals experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems or those with a dual diagnosis of autism.
- The practitioner acts as a specialist bridge between frameworks, requiring extensive legal literacy regarding both adult and children's statutory systems.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualifications: Professional Social Work Qualification (Degree or DipSW), Social Work England registration, and completed ASYE.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience, with specific, substantial experience in mental health and transitions.
- Travel: Full current UK driving licence and a car available for daily community duties.
Employment Package & Benefits (All Posts)
- Salary: £39,862 - £45,091 per annum.
- AMHP Allowance: Warranted AMHPs on the rota receive an extra £82 per shift worked (averaging 25-30 shifts per year).
- Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week. Core hours: Monday-Wednesday 8:30-17:00, Thursday 8:30-16:30, Friday 8:30-16:00.
- Working Pattern: 6-day service model (09:00-17:00). Mostly Monday to Friday, with very occasional Saturdays.
- Hybrid Working: Teams currently operate with 1 agreed working-from-home day per week.
- Leave: Generous entitlement of 28 days annual leave (rising with long service), plus bank holidays and a holiday purchase scheme.
- Development: Enjoys peer supervision, standard clinical supervision, and joint training with Pennine Care Mental Health Services. Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) available.
