Deputy Home Manager - Residential Children's Services
Location: Cheshire (with flexibility to support neighbouring services as required)
Purpose of the Job
Under the direction of the Home Manager, to provide a healthy, stimulating, and safe environment for young people and staff.
To manage the home in the absence of the Home Manager, fully in accordance with company policies and procedures.
To actively evidence and progress the leadership skills required to eventually step into a Registered Manager role.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Deputising & Leadership: Act on behalf of the Home Manager in their absence across all professional and administrative functions. Take a lead role in day-to-day team management and specific development areas agreed upon with the Home Manager.
Staff Supervision & Development: Conduct high-quality professional supervision and induction training for staff. Foster team building, staff development, and overall staff training.
Operational Management: Oversee rota planning to ensure all shifts are appropriately covered. Manage work routines and daily shift planning.
Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a deep understanding of, and lead practices in line with, Regulation 44 and 45 Quality of Care reviews, the Social Care Inspection Framework (SCCIF), and Health and Safety guidelines.
Care & Safeguarding: Contribute to, implement, and review robust care plans. Maintain safe care standards and manage discipline within the home, utilizing a strong knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures.
Relationship & Partnership Building: Build constructive relationships with residents and their families to meet emotional and physical needs. Maintain close communication with educational placements to oversee educational progress.
Resident Advocacy: Ensure the views and wishes of the young people are consistently sought, respected, and acted upon.
Administration & Reporting: Ensure good quality records are maintained, report files are up to date, and prepare for and attend statutory reviews, PEP meetings, and planning meetings.
Role Requirements
Essential Criteria
A minimum of 2 year's experience working in a Residential Children's home, with at least 1 year served as a Team Leader, Senior Support Worker, or equivalent.
Hold a full driving licence with access to your own car and business insurance (prepared to use your vehicle for work duties if required).
Proven, strong leadership skills with direct experience conducting high-quality staff supervisions.
Ability to ensure good quality records are maintained, reports are produced, and young people's files remain fully up to date.
Knowledge of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 and The Children's Act and understanding of the Social Care Inspection Framework (SCCIF), Quality Standards, and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
High flexibility to manage rotas, complete shift patterns, and undertake on-call duties as per the rota.
Desirable Criteria
Demonstrated ability or experience in delivering training to staff teams.
Active progression of skills and a clear desire to work towards a Registered Manager designation.
Qualifications
Essential
Hold an NVQ or Diploma Level 3 in Children and Young People (or equivalent).
Hold, or be actively working towards, an NVQ/Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
