An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Family Court Adviser to join the fast-paced Information & Screening Team in Birmingham. This critical front-door role focuses specifically on early assessment work up to the first court hearing, making it ideal for practitioners who thrive on quick-turnaround risk management without holding long-term court cases.
Key Highlights of the Role

- Early-Stage Focus: Specialise purely in initial screening, safeguarding checks, and early triage prior to the First Hearing Dispute Resolution Appointment (FHDRA).
- High-Impact Practice: Play a pivotal role in identifying initial risks early to ensure children are protected from the very start of family court proceedings.
Core Responsibilities
- Early Risk Screening: Conduct high-quality initial safeguarding checks, police risk assessments, and local authority enquiries for incoming private family law applications.
- First Hearing Preparation: Produce clear, concise Safeguarding Letters and initial risk assessments for the court prior to the first hearing.
- Telephone & Virtual Engagement: Speak directly with parents and carers to identify key issues, assess safety concerns, and determine suitable initial pathways.
- Judicial Advice: Provide initial risk management advice to magistrates and judges to inform early court directions and safe interim arrangements.
Candidate Requirements
- Professional Status: Fully qualified Social Worker with active Social Work England registration.
- Frontline Competency: Strong background in statutory children's social care (e.g., Duty & Assessment, MASH, Front Door, or CAFCASS).
- Analytical Skills: Excellent telephone assessment skills, rapid risk analysis, and the ability to produce high-quality screening reports under tight court deadlines.
