Are you a passionate advocate for children in care? Do you want to work in a scenic coastal city with a progressive local authority that truly values relationship-based practice?
Swansea Council is urgently seeking an experienced, resilient Qualified Social Worker to join their dedicated Looked After Children's Team. Offering a highly competitive Welsh regional rate of £38.00 per hour, this role is perfect for a practitioner who wants to help vulnerable young people achieve stability, security, and the bright futures they deserve.
The Impact You Will Make
In the LAC team, your focus shifts away from short-term crisis triage and into meaningful, long-term care planning and life-story work:
Permanence Planning: Develop and implement robust, child-centered care and support plans to secure long-term stability-whether through reunification, kinship care, long-term fostering, or adoption.
Statutory Looked After Reviews: Conduct regular statutory visits, monitor placement stability, and actively lead on looked-after reviews to ensure the child's evolving needs are met.
Court & Care Proceedings: Manage ongoing care proceedings, confidently write comprehensive look-after reports, and represent the local authority within the family court arena when required.
Voice of the Child: Utilize creative communication tools to ensure that the unique wishes, feelings, and cultural identity of every child in care directly shape their pathway plan.
Mandatory Candidate Criteria
To meet Welsh regulatory frameworks and the demands of this statutory team, all applicants must fulfill the following:
Professional Registration: You MUST hold an active registration with Social Care Wales (or have an active Social Work England registration with a transfer fully underway).
LAC Experience: Proven post-qualifying experience within a statutory Children's Services team, ideally with direct experience managing looked-after children and court processes.
Driving License: A full UK driving license with access to a vehicle for regular community and placement visits.
Why Join the Team in Swansea?
Premium Pay: Command an excellent regional rate of £38.00 per hour.
Supportive Culture: Swansea is highly regarded for its structured management, regular reflective supervision, and commitment to maintaining manageable caseloads.
