Role: MASH Social Worker
Service: Children's Front Door / Safeguarding
Location: Wigan Council (50% Remote / 50% Office Based)
Pay Rate: £38.00 per hour
Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing Interim Contract
Are you an experienced safeguarding practitioner looking to step away from active case management, court proceedings, and community visits?
Wigan Council is seeking a sharp, analytical MASH Social Worker to join their fast-paced Children's Front Door service. This role is strictly office and home-based, focusing entirely on high-quality risk triage, initial screening, and multi-agency information sharing to ensure children and families receive the right level of support at the earliest opportunity.
Role Overview & Key Responsibilities
Operating at the critical entry point of children's services, your daily duties will include:
Desktop Triage & Screening: Managing initial safeguarding referrals and alerts regarding children and young people, utilizing excellent telephone and email communication to gather multi-agency intelligence.
No Community Visits: Conducting all assessments and information-gathering remotely via phone and digital channels-there is absolutely no field-based footprint or face-to-face family visiting required.
Threshold Application & Signposting: Analyzing complex risk data to accurately determine thresholds, signposting families effectively to Level 2, 3, or 4 targeted interventions and statutory services.
Multi-Agency Collaboration: Working alongside partner agencies-including police, education, and health professionals-to build a comprehensive picture of risk and protective factors.
Mandatory Candidate Criteria
Professional Registration: Must be a Qualified Social Worker with an active Social Work England registration.
Frontline Experience: Proven post-qualifying experience within a statutory Children's Safeguarding environment (MASH, Duty & Assessment, or Front Door services preferred).
Analytical Skills: The ability to work at a fast pace, make sound decisions under pressure, and write concise, rationale-based threshold rationales.
Hybrid Commitment: Ability to adhere to a structured 50% home-working and 50% office-based weekly rota.
What This Position Offers You
Attractive Pay: A competitive hourly rate of £38.00 per hour.
Excellent Work-Life Balance: A predictable, desk-based schedule with a perfectly balanced hybrid structure, keeping your travel time and administrative stress to an absolute minimum.
Caseload Freedom: No ongoing casework, no care planning, and no court timescales-once a referral is processed and signposted, it is passed on.
