If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting adaptable SEN Teaching Assistants for flexible, day-to-day cover-offering both part-time and full-time options-within a vibrant, multi-site specialist provision based in the East Leeds area.
About the School
They are an outstanding, highly regarded Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) dedicated to providing exemplary education for pupils aged 2 to 19 with a broad spectrum of complex needs. These include severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), physical disabilities, and complex medical requirements. Spread across tailored sites, they pride themselves on creating a safe, stimulating, and multi-sensory environment. By working collaboratively with families, therapists, and healthcare professionals, they deliver individualised learning pathways that promote pupil independence, confidence, and effective communication skills.
Role and Responsibilities
In this flexible cover role, you will step in on a day-to-day basis to support class teams across different age groups and learning levels, with options available for both part-time and full-time availability. Your key duties will include:
- Assisting pupils with tailored learning activities designed around their individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Utilising specialist communication aids-such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables-to support non-verbal and pre-verbal learners, while assisting with physical mobility and personal care routines where required.
- Guiding pupils through sensory movement breaks, quiet-space routines, and positive behaviour support techniques during moments of overwhelm.
- Working alongside lead teachers, healthcare professionals, and therapists to ensure a safe, consistent, and well-structured learning environment.
- Encouraging pupil autonomy during learning tasks, social mealtimes, and transition periods throughout the school day.
Skills Required
- The confidence to step seamlessly into different classroom setups and support varied pupil profiles on an ad hoc basis.
- Prior experience supporting children or young adults with SLD, PMLD, autism, or complex physical and learning needs in an educational or care setting.
- Practical familiarity with visual schedules, symbol support systems, or basic Makaton.
- A calm, patient, and resilient demeanor, with a strong understanding of non-verbal cues and behaviour as a form of communication.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (SEN) within the UK.
- Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
- An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.
