The Role Are you an expert in complex moving and handling with a passion for promoting independence and safety?
Liverpool Council is seeking a highly skilled Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Social Care team, taking the lead on complex manual handling cases. In this specialized role, you will be instrumental in ensuring that adults across Liverpool receive safe, dignified, and proportionate care, while supporting carers and families through expert guidance and equipment provision.
If you have a strong background in single-handed care reviews and advanced manual handling risk assessments, this is a fantastic opportunity to utilize your expertise at a senior level.
🔍 Key Responsibilities:
- Specialist Assessments: Conduct comprehensive manual handling and risk assessments for adults with complex physical disabilities and varying health conditions in their own homes.
- Equipment Prescription: Recommend, prescribe, and review specialist moving and handling equipment (e.g., complex hoists, slings, stand aids, and specialist seating).
- Single-Handed Care: Lead on single-handed care reviews, identifying opportunities to safely reduce care packages through the introduction of innovative equipment and techniques.
- Training & Guidance: Provide expert advice, demonstration, and training to informal carers, family members, and commissioned care agency staff to ensure safe handling practices.
- Multi-Disciplinary Working: Collaborate effectively with social workers, district nurses, physiotherapists, and care providers to ensure holistic, person-centered support plans.
📋 What You Need to Succeed:
- Qualifications: A recognized degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration: Current and active registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience: Extensive post-qualifying experience in an adult community or social services setting, with a proven specialism in complex manual handling.
- Skills: Advanced knowledge of current moving and handling legislation, risk assessment frameworks, and the latest specialist equipment. (A Moving and Handling Trainer qualification is highly desirable).
- Mobility: A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for community visits.
