Ipswich
Are you a Teacher who believes that every child, regardless of their starting point, deserves a classroom where they can truly belong and succeed?
We are seeking a passionate and resilient Qualified Teacher (QTS) to lead a class at our partner SEN School in Ipswich. This school is a dedicated hub for students with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. We are looking for an educator who can look past a diagnosis and see a student's potential, using creative, sensory-based pedagogy to make the curriculum accessible and exciting.
Your Responsibilities
- Adaptive Lesson Planning: Transform the National Curriculum into "small-step" learning objectives that align with each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Communication Advocacy: Lead a "Total Communication" environment, utilising Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to ensure every student is understood.
- Positive Co-Regulation: Create a low-arousal, highly structured atmosphere where Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is at the heart of every interaction.
- Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Work in tandem with onsite Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT) and Occupational Therapists (OT) to integrate therapeutic goals into daily learning.
- Team Mentorship: Lead and empower a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they have the guidance and support needed to facilitate high-quality 1:1 interventions.
- Assessment & Reporting: Use specialist frameworks to track and celebrate the academic, social, and functional milestones of your pupils.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced SEN specialists or Primary/Secondary teachers with a strong interest in transitioning to special education.
- Resilient Empathy: A calm, compassionate, and grounded approach, especially when supporting students through periods of emotional or sensory dysregulation.
- Creative Innovation: A knack for finding "the hook" that engages a neurodiverse learner, whether through music, technology, or sensory play.
- Consistent Commitment: Our students rely on routine and familiar faces; we are looking for a professional who can commit to a full-time, long-term schedule.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
