As a residential support worker, your role will be to enable the service users to live as independent and fulfilling lives as possible. This will include positive risk taking, for example, something as simple as enabling the service user to make their own cups of tea with the appropriate risk assessments in place can create a strong sense of independence. You will be required to support the service users to reach their own goals and engage in activities that interests them. Your responsibilities will also include: Supporting the service users morning/evening routines and ensuring privacy and dignity are respected at all times. This will include supporting service users with intimate levels of personal care. Supporting service users to develop daily living skills. This can include everything from encouraging them to write a shopping list to preparing a Sunday lunch. Activities should be made fun and engaging. Being able to work flexibly, not only to regards to rota patterns but also the ways in which you support the service users.
